To honour its parent company BMW’s 100year anniversary, British automaker Mini has unveiled a concept for a shared – yet personalised – future of mobility.
The Vision Next 100 project foresees that car ownership will be obsolete in the future – instead, urbanites will share their vehicles. The imagined car concept, therefore, is described as a vehicle that will be "owned by everyone, at anytime and anywhere", offering configurative features and customised colour options to make sharing appealing.
INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMISATION: The exterior body adapts to the user's preferences with custom graphics – such as a logo or an image, to indicate who is behind the wheel – while responsive instructions can be beamed onto the street. Similarly, the interior lighting can be adjusted to match the exterior look.
LEARNED INTELLIGENCE: The Cooperiser – a central digital intelligence device that communicates with the driver via changes in colour – learns and suggests customised settings such as better driving routes or music based on the driver's preferences.
SUSTAINABLE LUXURY: Interior floor, roof and side panels boast recycled plastic and aluminium, while sophisticated materials like brass, igneous basalt rock and recycled cellulose are found on the dashboard and beneath seats. Sharing is anticipated to increase the general wear of the car, so the brand has selected hardwearing and sustainable materials that age well.
MAXIMISING SPACE: The steering wheel and pedals are adjustable, sliding between left, centre and right positions to create a hyperflexible space. A wide windscreen extends all the way down to the front of the car to provide the driver with greater visibility. It also gives passengers a sense of openness and space.
With numbers of autonomous vehicles expected to rise, Mini is building a vision of an enjoyable and seamless driving experience. An innovative and convenient feature sees the Vision car autonomously drive to a service hub where it is cleaned and recharged before going to meet the next driver.
